How To Care of your wool:
Wash untreated wool as seldom as possible.
Hang your wool outdoors sometimes. Just remember wool can absorb 40% of its weight without feeling wet. Therefore it is important to use the radiator to dry the wool if you know the wool contains moisture e.g. nursing pads or diaper covers.
It is not enough to air-dry.
Sterilization of your nursing pads (e.g. by yeast infection)
- When dry – gently rub the stiffened area to break up the milk particles
- Place the pads in a pot with lukewarm water.
- Gradually bring the water, with pads, to a gentle boil. Let boil for 10 minutes.
- Remove the pot from the heat. Do not remove pads from the water. Let the water with the pads cool to lukewarm.
- Add 1 tblsp lanolin soap and stir gently & let it soak for 10 minutes.
- Rinse in lukewarm water
- Press out the water. Lay them to dry over a mild heat source.
NEWS about washing and sterilization of nursing pads made of ecological merino wool
Through many years LANACare has been a leading firm within production and sale of nursing pads made of wool and right now a quite new nursing pad made of pure soft merino wool has been developed and marketed. And the new SOFT LINE nursing pad has already been extremely well received.
There are exactly as many prejudices against caring and washing instructions, as there are different kinds of woollen nursing pads. It is recommended to wash the new SOFT LINE nursing pads on the WOOL washing programme 30 degr. C and afterwards (while they are still wet) put them in the microwave oven for 3 minutes on full power (100 degr. C). The result is totally sterile nursing pads without bacteria and fungus.
Since January 2007 professor in environmental engineering Mr. Gabriel Britton at the University of Florida has pointed out that all homes supplied with a microwave oven have extremely effective means for sterilization of kitchen textiles (and therefore also nursing pads) against bacteria and fungus.
The State Serum Institute recommends 100 degr. C in connection with elimination of fungus. This is easily achieved by means of the microwave oven and it becomes quite simple to wash and sterilize the new, soft and comfortable SOFT LINE nursing pads.
